I do this and wonder if anyone else uses this practice? When I shoot a deer and either see it go down or here it go down and know for sure it is dead , I will still go to where I shot it and will take my time to follow the blood trail to where it is lying. You can learn alot on trackin a shot deer by doin this.So does anyone else practice this technique?

I do as well. Tracking a deer via blood trail is something I actually enjoy. It is like piecing a puzzle together and can be very challenging at times.

I only got to do it once all season last year but it was definitely one heck of a learning experience. I was surprised at how far my little doe went. but I followed her trail all the way to her. Didn't see her till I was on top of her. I was told it would be that way by the person I was with. I was amazed. I guess your first does that to you.

I do it also. I have a hard time distinguishing red color in the woods so it is hard for me so i practice all i can. I will say the rage has definately made that part of bowhunting way easier for me.
I used a rage on mine as well and I kinda figured there would be more blood than there was. I had a good trail but figured there would be more than what I saw. Sometimes it was real thin.

how else would you find your deer?? just walk and hope???

Reread my post , I am talking about tracking even when you know exactly where the deer went down. I have actually had a down deer in sight and lost the blood trail. I would start looking for other signs that would lead me directly to the down deer.

most of the time I will atleast mark where the blood trail begins just in case I get over to it and it hauls but I'd say 50% of the time I'll follow blood even if I see it in sight just to get the extra learning time.

Me too muddyboots. I have trouble seeing blood as well. I can still track fairly well, but it takes me much longer to follow a blood trail. If I see my game go down, I usually just go straight for it though, unless I need to backtrack to find an arrow.

Yep I do it too, unless of course the deer happens to fall right there.

LOL , funny! I have only have that to happen one time when I shot a 8 point in the spine after he got through makin a scrape , which was another educational experience.

yep, except in drops like last year......no where to trail...it dropped!!!!
