Fox squirrel tail jigs

My cousin, Mark, brought me a couple of nice fox squirrel tails. I made up a few of these today. 1/32 oz on a #4 hook. I will give them a try next week and see if the crappie like them.

Fox squirrel jigs were one of my favorites on Douglas Lake when I lived up that way.

Would raccoon tail or coyote tail have any value for fly tying? I kept a few off the trapline this year.

I have tried coon and it doesn't handle well. Not sure about coyote. Artic fox makes beautiful jigs but can be hard to tie.

Looks good to me. I've tied a couple crawfish flies using gray squirrel tail for the claws and it looked great in the water. I bet that fox squirrel is awesome.
