Ive been reloading my own shotgun shells for 7 years or so now. I have loaded up the same 2 loads the entire time to test between different guns. Those loads take different hulls and different wads for each.
Well with my new 20 I was loading up a few of each to try out in it and see which load does better. HERE is where I made a big mistake, I am so use to doing it I just had one of those "going through the motions" times. I had all the hulls and wads out next to each other but I didnt REALLY be intentional aa to which I was grabbing.
Ended up making one load with the wrong hull, and then ended up making one load with the wrong wad. Took them out today to go shoot some and THANK GOD Ive loaded enough of them that I know what the roll crimps should look like for each and I mark each hull with what load it is. . Was about to send it on one and just happen to notice the crimp length just didnt look right so I put it back in my bag and grabbed a different one and just happen to notice the mark saying what load it was wasnt on the right hull.
I doubt it would have blown up my barrel or anything but man was a good reminder to be more intentional when doing it. Also to make sure each load components were in completely separate areas.
