First, this is not a total decoy bash topic. I understand why the majority of hunters feel decoys are necessary to hunt with.

However, the funky chicken is the most asinine thing I've ever seen. If I were to be a decoy guy I'd be embarrassed to sit behind that idiotic plastic turkey. It just shows to me that turkeys become so stupid when they see anything resembling another gobbler that they completely let down all of their defenses.

Typical of Michael Waddell as well to endorse some crap like that, but I guess he understands the money to be made off of the new generation of hunters and for that I don't blame him

Yea it's another product to sell and make money off of, I'd probably rather be selling hunting gear than working my current jobs. Flextone does have some dumb gimmicks, some of the worst I think. I've heard the funky chicken really works but I just don't have much desire to try it. I will admit I would much rather try reaping. Something about crawling out in the open with only a fan between me and the prey. I'd like to use a tail fan, not a strutter deke for that. I also know of a place I can try it and not get shot...

I keep saying im gonna set up a pink flamingo and film the hunt, i know it will work. Add a fan to it and just sit it out.

I'm sure I've told the story of being Bama several decades ago, and while hunting a sod farm we employed an old 5 gallon black hydraulic fluid bucket we found on the edge of the field with a palmetto branch and killed the dominant strutter in seconds that we had hunted for weeks but couldn't quite get it done.

Funniest part of the story is one of our buddies was a game warden, and at the time decoys were illegal, so we asked him after the fact if we broke the law. He chuckled and said no, you used a bucket and a palmetto not a turkey decoy :rotf:

Haha, talk about skirting the law! I believe it to man. I have some friends that live by the decoy, they simply set out a strutter and if there is a bird around they either come on a dead run or go away from it. Fun to watch yea, but not a lot of sport to it IMO.

I still can claim I've never killed one over a decoy though, because according to a law enforcement officer I was legal.

Everyone knows how I feel about the decoy deal, and I would rather not turn this into a decoy bashing topic and just bash Flextone and the bowling pin.

Flextone makes a bunch of fancy piece of junk calls. Oh, but it's flexible like a real animal and the inside of the call is ribbed like a real windpipe, yet it sounds like you're calling thru an empty roll of toilet paper. At least the BCX call I found on public land is junk like that. It hardly even works, the buck grunt doesn't work and the snort wheeze part ain't as good as just using your own mouth.

Setterman you said bowling pin...awesome idea, I might have to find an old bowling pin and paint it like a turkey and take some video of a gobbler beating it up. Then next time I'll try the pink flamingo...

This wont be popular, but I have killed a couple using a fan (on very private land). It was a lot of fun and presents its own set of challenges especially physically. It is exhausting compared to sitting at the base of a tree. I understand why Setterman and others think it is ridiculous. I don't begrudge them their opinion. However, I enjoyed very much those stalks with a fan.

i'd just about buy one if I thought it would help me on the bad bird that is causing me problems. JK.

The first time I saw it I laughed. It may work but is the most ridiculous decoy I've ever seen. I don't blame waddell though for endorsing it. Heck if they paid me what I'm sure they're paying him I'd endorse it too.

I'm all for making money however is legally possible, no qualms with Michael for that. He is a goofy d-bag though.

The fact that turkeys come to that hideous thing just tells me how vulnerable they are to anything that even remotely resembles another male turkey. I wonder if I painted a strutter on my truck if I could just drive it around, and as they run into and die pick them up and take them home? Reckon that would fall under, the hunting from a moving vehicle reg though.

I agree on the decoy aspect. I used to use a hen or two but normally don't carry them with me anymore. After a buddy told how they ran to Pretty Boy I just had to try it. Birds around here must be sissies because everyone that saw it turned and went away. Its been in my barn for several years now and is still there if it hasn't disintegrated. As for a deke in your truck I'm sure you've seen videos where they're trying to fight the gobbler they see in the chrome bumpers.

I bought one to use for my little brother on the Juvy hunt. After we called that Tom across the holler into the field he saw it and locked in on him with that humped up mean walk and went right where we needed him for a 20 yard shot. That was the first one I've ever seen killed over a decoy. Got to see behavior I hadn't saw before. Not opposed to trying it again at some point in the future. Just couldn't make a religious habit of it lol.
