i patterned my moss 835 today and at 60 yards i would have killed the turkey easy , now up until today i wouldnt have ever trid it at 60 but now that i know my gun will do it he better watch out !! and at 40 yrd he doesn't stand a chance . iam pumped and ready woo hoo! .so what is your stopping point

My mossy 835 is capable of a 60 yrd kill, but in the heat of the moment i've let them walk then stepped off the yardage and smacked myself for not pullin the trigger. Last one i let walk was at 45ish yds.

i no the feeling. i let one walk just like you said and when i got up and walked it off it was 33 steps , and i have never killed one yet ,, maybe why ive been shooting and figuring my gun out cause i dont want that to happen again , not to mention the one i did shoot at was 55 steps and he flew off laughing . not this year ,, i got something for him ,, lol

killed one at 52 steps with my 20 gauge mossberg 500 sure luck now shot a Benelli nova 3.5 shells pattern at 70 yards should be dead bird. using kicks choke with winchester extended range.

I have killed one with the 835 at 55 paces using a Primos Tight Wad 680 and Remington Nitro #5 3 1/2". I patterned it this year with the same shell but 3 inch shells and a Factory xxfull at 670. I am confident out to 50 yards! And it saves some wear and tear on the shoulder! Just bought a True glo gobble stopper extreme that i think is 665 cant wait to try it out!

I have a witness to verify this. I am not proud of the shot. I thought the turkey was 50- 55 steps and it was leaving. So I shot. My partner behind me comes off the ground and says what are you doing! I said shooting a turkey. He says how far do you think that is? I say 55 steps. He says more like 100. He steps it off to the dead bird, 84 steps. I have laughed at people telling me storie like this. Because I did not believe them. I was shooting 3 inch winchester shells. I was shooting into a pasture. Im not good a judgeing distance in the wide open.

In before someone says how unethical it is to shoot out farther than you can pee.... btw 52 yrds is my longest last year across open pasture, I could've sworn it was 51 yrds. LOL!

I don't know exactly, but I know that my last 15 at least have been within 25 yards. 13 with the bow, and the last 2 that were with shotgun about bolled me over. I've never even practiced past 30 yards. Mostly it's because I don't hunt any open areas. I can only see short distances in the thick wooded ridge and valley habitat I hunt.

You'd think that my average would be good by waiting for them to get close, but I didn't even kill a turkey last spring. I had 6 in shotgun range, I think three in bow range. I never even had a chance to draw on any of them. That's just turkey hunting.

i know , i thought of that before i made this post but, what iam getting at is i now know what my limits are with my gun  i would say if you spent as much money as i did figuring out your gun you are giving a turkey a lot of respect by knowing where you can effectively kill him ;)

49.5 yards with an 835 and the factory extra full choke pushing 3 1/2" Winchester Supreme #5's. My brother and I were in a blind and I told him once the rangefinder said 50 to let me know and he said 49.5. Bang, flop, game over. :)
