I heard there was speculation about ending turkey hunting everyday at 1:00 pm. Please tell me this is a rumor!

They already said no changes for next season. Even though they dont know anything about this years hatch yet, or this years harvest. Despite outrageously high jake harvests in alot of counties that any biologist would find very unacceptable, no changes.

I wouldn't mind a 5"-6" beard length minimum or a 2-3 bird limit until the numbers get higher.
Maybe allow a youth to harvest any turkey including hens on juvy hunt.

Could the deer numbers (ie buck:doe ratio) be used to steer the turkey regs.... may sound silly but it's just a thought.... What happens when jakes breed hens..... or there is mostly hens and tom has to hardly go anywhere to find/service a hen making the hunting very frustrating to the hunters.... like this year for example?

I wouldnt mind restrictions on jakes at all either. True story here, one of my favorite places to turkey hunt has been ruined this year due to jake slaughterers. The main idget killed 4 jakes, then brought buddies and let 3 of them kill a jake a piece also. No longbeard harvests between any of them. That wiped out every jake that was on the place and will ruin the hunting for quite a few years. Really ticks me off too because this property is very close to mine so what he has done will affect my property also. Thats 7 jakes out of a flock that was already greatly reduced in numbers from previous years.

I absolutely agree with restrictions on jakes. I think a one jake rule would be perfect. I'm sure there will be a bunch of crybabies whining about taking their "easy kills" away from them if that happens!

Really? Did the jakes kill the longbeards that were there before they got slaughtered?

There wasnt but two longbeards on 2 square miles. Pitiful considering there used to be 10 or more. I decided not to kill any there this year but that didnt do a bit of good.

I can see it coming..........."We should only kill MATURE gobblers" :D :D

As opposed to, 'we should continue shooting baby turkeys' :) :)

Seriously, though...

Harvest limits should fluctuate region by region and year by year depending on the spring's hatch and previous harvest totals. In my county which has seen a decline in population and harvest numbers for 5 consecutive years, I'd like to see all jakes protected and limit on gobblers lowered to 2. I'd also like to see the season open the second week of April. While we're at it, elimination of fall hen hunting during the period of population decline would also be nice.

As the population rebounds, the harvest restrictions could be loosened.

Maybe we should have a 1 1/2" minimum spur length.

What makes you think those two birds were telling you the truth.

Sorry boys I live in the woods, not big city Knoxville. I know whats going on with the local populations. I dont make jokes or see anything funny at all about the current situation.
