For the past 3 hunts for Ol Long Rope my hunt has been busted up by a gang of Jakes rushing in and whooping up on 3 Tom's and running them off....any tips? Or do I suck it up and bust me a 5" bearded Jake that leads the gang of 10...I witness this group actually run down the third Tom I call #3 after they ran down ol long rope into a corner out of sight....
 
Your hunting will pay off more in the long run if you restrain from killing a jake now. I would never kill a jake intentionally and certainly not jakes that are already showing the stones to try and assert their dominance. Those will be hard gobbling fun birds to hunt for the next several years and make your property a lot of fun. Killing one now won't solve your problem.
 
That lead jake is going to have all the hens next year and keep all the other gobblers off your farm lol

Probably ten years ago I had a longbeard coming in and some jakes were across the creek in another field. I was hoping they wouldn't cross and all of a sudden they all flew over it and ran straight to the gobbler. They went around in circles chasing him before he finally headed back toward the woods. I was so mad and the jakes started heading to the far end of the field. I was waiting for them to get out of sight to try and get up into the woods ahead of the gobbler but they turned around and headed back. I decided if they got in range I was killing one. Well they came close and I did. That said at this point in my life I wouldn't shoot one.
 
Speaking of Jakes. As of this afternoon 3528 had been shot this season already.
That is a lot of 2 yo that won't be around next yr.

3216 shot 1, ... 288 shot 2,...... 23 shot 3,...... and some idiot shot 4 to tag out.

where'd you find the info on how many people kill how many birds each
