Age old question.
I could go home and do any one of a number of things I need to do around the house.
I could go home and go turkey hunting.
Either way it is a beautiful day.

Seems like a easy call to make (go hunting) but.....

I don't like to "deer hunt" turkeys.
The size of the property and the layout of the land would basically require me to go in and set up on the edge of a small field and just wait.
Of course if one gobbled to a call I could try to get close to his location and call him in just like a morning hunt but basically there is about a 90% chance that if a turkey is on the property I can hunt he will be in that small, back, secluded field.
Very little room to move around. It is right at 100 acres but I am gonna say the woods (in 3 seperate locations on the 100 acres) would total about 10 acres.
Feast or famine type deal.

Granted, if I don't go I won't kill one for sure.
If I do go, well the odds and my confidence are slim.

Ugggg.

Go! Deer hunting turkeys is not fun but beats working around the house!!

Slim is better than none!

So what did ya do? I'd have gone. I used to hunt a 40 acre tract just down the road. Very flat and the woods were cedars but pretty open so kind of difficult to move around much. I killed quite a few over the years there. It actually taught me to be a more patient turkey hunter.

Well the last time I looked out at work the sun was shining and it was beautiful.
I left here, walked out and it was sprinkling.
Then the wind hit me.

By the time I got home it was a full blown thunderstorm with warnings on the radio and the whole nine yards.
Remembered I had a movie I had to take back and by the time I did that and ran a couple more errands I forgot about I was out of the mood enough that walking through that muddy field just didn't appeal enough to me to make me go.

I'm passing on it this year too. I have only 27 acres but it doesn't take a lot of land to kill a turkey. But in my area things are really grim - no birds on the trail cams or visual - so I'm just gonna work on my food plots and keep the corn flowing for the deer. I plan on putting some chufa in too at some point and see if I can get the birds (if there are any) to stop by for a bite to eat more often. I do miss the hunting though. Maybe next year.
