Gobbling at a gobbler?

Yes and I have had good success as well, last year was the first I tried. Called one down off a big ridge with it last year in conjuction with hen calls and right down the gun barrel. Didnt shoot him because it was on my place and I knew he was 2 so I just watched him and he really put on a show looking for that gobbler that was supposed to be there LOL Bet he gobbled 75 times before he moved off. Ended up calling in several more jakes with it and 1 longbeard that I killed.

Yep got in front of a bird 3 times. 1st and 2nd time with soft hen calls, the hens led him away. 3rd time I had nothing to lose so I gobbled with a mouth call. Might near ran over me but he ended up walkong out with me.

that is the sole reason i carry a tube call. I have had more then a few that would not do anything with any call i threw at them but for some reason a jake gobble had him RUNNING in.

matter of fact called one with just a tube call gobble through a fence and over 500 yds across a field 2 years ago. Dangdis thing i have seen.

Im like you ren. I wouldnt go through woods shaking it every 20 minutes, but if all else fails, I will try it.

I have never tried the shaker version but they seem to be popular. I would like to hear what they sound like from a distance but up close they have always seemed a bit off key or something, just something missing in it i cant put my finger on.

I know guys that use them though and have had success with them so seems like the birds dont mind to much

I have had really good luck with my shaker call. As mentioned earlier it is not a sure thing but brought some in that was hennaed up and not coming to my hen calls.
I try not to use decoys much but had some field birds that had me stumped half a season. I took my strutter decoy out with a jake fan and used the rolling land to crawl 100 yds from the hennaed up toms. I hid behind the decoy and used a mouth call and nothing. They would look at it but not really move towards it. After 45 min or so I decided to pull out my shaker and gave it ago. 3 mature toms couldn't get to me fast enough. Needless to say, walked out with a big boy over my shoulder.

Hmmmmm I am gonna have to practice my jake gobbles on the tube call. Maybe I will use it as a last resort for a henned up bird. Wonder how it will go around on public land.

A deadly thing to learn, however just a word of advice, you better be confident that the bird you decide to gobble at is dominant. Don't make the assumption that because he has hens that he is dominant either. If he isn't dominant, then 99% of the time the game ends.

Also, be smart and safe when using this tactic.
