Much has been written the last couple of weeks about the less than average gobbling in many areas of the state. I haven't been able to go for several days but am wondering if gobbling has picking up a little bit? What are you hearing?

One week made all the difference for me. They blew the woods down yesterday. Birds are just now breaking up where I hunt which is really late.

Just now starting to gobble good for me. I spent the last 3 mornings on public land right on the KY/TN border and heard a lot. Last week you would have swore there wasn't a turkey around.

Same scenario as me, as we discussed in another thread. I can see KY where I hunt, and was actually in Ky yesterday but I'm only 300 yards from TN. Last Saturday, Wednesday, Tuesday, and opening weekend it was lifeless. Yesterday morning there were birds gobbling everywhere.

It is bizarre how different the timing is depending on elevation and latitude. I'd rather hunt late in them breeding cycle then early. Nothing tougher then trying to get a bird to gobble when he's not ready to breed.

In thinking about research related to gobbling peaks/lulls and looking back on this years activity, I honestly don't feel like we've had any sort of peak yet (and maybe we won't). I usually see a first peak before the season starts, then it's quieter for a couple of weeks while the hens give me fits, then it picks back up again. Didn't see that at all this year...except for the hens giving me fits part.

There's still plenty of season remaining and looking at my notes from the past, I've killed numerous hard-gobbling birds the last few days of April and first few of May so that's promising.
