I experienced something this evening that was completely a behavior I did not know existed. I was out looking at a field and a big storm blew in from the north making me beat it back to the truck. In the black dark with lightning flashing and thunder rolling three different gobblers fired off and continued for thirty minutes. It was almost like they were gobbling to each other and it sounded like they were on the ground. Could this have been a danger communication warning of threat from the weather? Why were they on the ground in the dark of evening?

I was in a bottom doing some scouting late one afternoon when a thunder storm rolled in fast. A gobbler cut lose and was going crazy along with the thunder. It got dark and would stay that way until sundown. He was gobbling like crazy and I was sure I could kill him. I heard him fly up to roost and decided to leave and return in the morning with the wife to see if I could put her on him. Unfortunately it poured rain all night and the bottom flooded and I couldn't get to him. Point being, the thunder and lighting had him fired up.

Shock gobbling at any loud and sudden sound like thunder.I knew a man once thar used one of those Walmart air horns,it worked.

Do you work them with yelps and regular calls when they are gobbling to thunder?

Hence the term "Thunder Chicken" !!
I enjoy a thunderstorm hunt until the bolts start hitting the ground.....
