I had a "lucky" break! A customer called me out of the blue wanting to buy some equipment from me. He happens to be in Colorado.

Well my in-laws live in Western Kansas. I decided to go see the customer and then shoot up to their house to do the turkey opener.

It is bow/crossbow only for their first week, so I'll be taking my crossbow with me. One of my friends it trying to do the "Turkey Slam" with a bow. He missed out on a Rio last year, so I invited him to go with me. (I'm hoping he'll return the favor and invite me to SC to hunt pigs again. :D )

My brother in law says he saw "about 300" in the creek bottom a few weeks ago. I'm hoping that means we will have some success.

I'd take my bow, but since I can't seem to hit a deer with it, I seriously doubt I can hit a turkey. What kind of broadhead should I try?

I will be in kansas starting on the 15th. I will be using my bow too this yr. Good luck on your hunt. Like they said, use your deer broadheads. Bigger cutting area the better.

My friend John is going with me for certain. He already has a Grand Slam with a shotgun. Now he is trying to do it with archery.

If we tag out early we are going to head north quickly to the Winnebago Indian reservation and try to get me a Merriam's. :)

You do know that you have to draw for a permit at winnebago right. Might want to get that put in. A lot of people have already applied for there the first week already.

Also from what I can find on all the population maps, that area had no merriams. I could be wrong. Just thought I might give you a heads up so you can fo some more research.

It turns out we would be going to where the Omaha tribe is near Grand Island. That is only a three hour drive from where we are hunting in Kansas.

(My friend John is a Native American. He has been adopted into a couple of other tribes. Many times Chiefs from the Cherokee nation come to hunt turkeys and hogs with him in SC. They gave me a cool Cherokee Nation game warden hat. :) )

Man that is sweet! I've got an 1/8th cherokee from my moms side and an 1/8th from my dads side. Wish I could trace that stuff back and see where my family came from.
