Think my camo gave me up this morning in the dreary, dark woods.

Any suggestions for these type days?

It seems like the woods are nearly always wet during turkey season. Here's a pic of what I use, it's been around awhile, works very well for me, as I ttpically sit with my back against a tree.

Also, this may be a different approach that some don't agree with....but I usually wear a different pattern for pants than my jacket. To me, this helps break things up. I'm probably over-thinking it, but I want every reasonable advantage I can get. Of course a headnet and gloves are part of my gear 100% of the time when turkey hunting.

It's very similar to the old school Trebark. Here's the MO Bottomland pattern...

I'm not too picky about it, most of the time is Bottomland or Obsession or both, if it's both I like the obsession on the bottom and bottomland on top, works well when sitting against a tree

I think you are over thinking it but that doesn't mean you are wrong. Take ever advantage you can cause the gobbler will. Think about it like this...you can pop up a ground blind and birds pay it no mind at all. A giant box shaped bush just appeared from nowhere and they walk right by it. Birds will sometimes see something they don't like and
we never figure out what it was.

Having said that, I like Natgear Camo and Bottomland. It is great but not widely used. Natgear is not used on much performance clothing or gear but I wear their pants early and when everything greens up switch to Obsession.

How hid, or brushed in were you? Were you sitting out in the wide open winter looking woods at the base of a 18-24" diameter tree? Just trying to get a better feel for the exact scenario this morning, nothing more.

I probably am. I wore the exact same thing yesterday morning and evening and had hens in my lap. But, it was a brighter day. I was grasping at straws at what might have spooked the gobbler this morning.

After he left, I got to looking at my camo vest in relation to my surrounding area, and it was noticeably brighter and greener than the surrounding dreary woods. I had a good cover in front of me, but he slipped in on another rise about 80 yards away at my 10:00. I hadn't seen him when I clucked a couple of times because I thought I was hearing one spit (I can't hear drumming), when I saw him start to trot down the hill. I actually thought he was coming to me, but didn't. I don't know what happened.

I literally wear two "outfits" all season. Early I wear new bottomland pants with a treestand short. After green up I wear an obsession shirt with new bottomland. Nothing morphs into the forest floor like the new bottomland. Well except forest floor which they quit making :bash:

I am probably not qualified to answer this. I am turkey hunting today in realtree Xtra pants, fusion 3d (walmart) shirt, realtree hardwoods jacket, realtree hardwoods gloves, mossy oak obsession cap, realtree all purpose green facemask, and a mossy oak obsession vest. If you got busted I would guess it was more movement than camo pattern. That being said, I prefer mossy oak obsession or realtree all purpose green.

I started turkey hunting in 1993 and I can't ever remember getting picked off because of my camo while turkey hunting. It is always because of movement, but maybe I am just lucky. Most times my camo doesn't even match!

By the way, I seriously doubt it was the camo that cost you. More likely movement or calling when he was too close

This would be my bet, even if it were me that was in your situation and had same outcome. It happens to all of us at one point or the other. Stay after them and it will soon be a distant memory of yours.

Yep, no shame in either calling too late in the game or getting picked off. It happens to all of us. And is always frustrating

I've been in the woods after rain, and have noticed my camo being a lot lighter than the surroundings. It's always important just to try to get by as big a tree as you can with some brush if you can.
I wear mossy oak new and old bottomland, obsession, green leaf, full foliage ( I still have some) and tree stand. I don't think it matters, but I've been a mossy oak guy since forever.

And also, I never wash my turkey camo. What's the point? They can't smell anyways haha. I like having a bloody backside, and most of my pants and my vest cushion are stained from the blood of numerous gobblers.
