Last Thursday afternoon and Friday morning a buddy and I went to Wheeler dam and fished in his boat below the dam. We used big 1oz jig heads with 3 inch swimbaits. We also spent considerable time drifting live gizzard and yellowtail shad we caught ourselves.

Absolutely no idea how many fish we caught but it was a ton. Thursday afternoon we caught white bass on the jig for over an hour on virtually every cast. I also managed a 9 pound hybrid that afternoon as well as some small bass and one about 5 lbs. Also caught some drum in the 10-12 lb range.

Friday morning was even better! Caught two largemouth over 5 lbs. A 4.5 lb smallie and a 10 lb hybrid. Once again too many whites to even keep up with.

Not much I love more than a good spring Wheeler trip. Never know what you will catch but you can rest assured that it will be big. Here's a few pics.

Any topwater for the hybrids?

Never even tried. I have done it on Priest a little but havent even tried it in that fast moving water below Wheeler. Last Thurs/Fri when we were there they were running over 100,000 CFS and had 7 spill gates open. I have caught plenty of whites on topwater down there when they get in the jumps about 1/2 mile below the dam.
