Other than the juvi hunt I've only been one morning and a couple of afternoons after work. This farm is just down the road but due to construction all around wasn't sure if birds would be there or not. I went last Saturday morning and saw 2 hens and then a gobbler and hens 400+ yards off the property and never heard a gobble. Wednesday I had to go to the dentist so on my way back I pass by around noon and there he is in full strut with a hen right by the barn. Was tempted to not go back to work but had too much to do. So get in there this morning and cut a few limbs on cedar bushes and nestle in between them overlooking a pipeline. He gobbled at 5:50 and then a hen flew down. At 6:00 he flew down followed by more. All told there were 8 hens. I had done a few light calls before they pitched down so he'd know where I was. As it turned out the hens marched him right by and at 35 yard I cut on my mouth call. He came out of strut and that head went straight up. I squeezed the trigger and the longbeard #5's dropped him in his tracks. Looked at my watch and it was 6:13 so I just sat there until the hens walked off and thanked the Lord for Good Friday for two reasons today.

19 lbs 1 oz
9 3/4" beard
7/8" spurs

I was sitting between these two cedars. My new cabelas tactical tatr vest with kickstand made that possible to do without a tree to lean into.
