Like everyone we basically got rained out opening morning. Saturday evening my son Tyler and I went to a few stands up on a ridge at our property. I had a shot at a doe and button several times. Closest they got was 5 yards. They got a pass. They went towards Tylers stand put was outside his bow range. This is his first year hunting without me next to him. So he is trying to get his first deer with a bow all by himself.

This morning we were in deer bigtime. We seen a total of 10 deer with 2 of them being small bucks. Long story short I had this buck come with in 20 yards or less and Tyler could see it and wanted to shoot it. With it being his first deer with a bow I told him he could shoot whatever he wanted. The buck cooperated and went over to him and even stood under his stand for a few minutes. After it got board it meandered out to the logging road. He whistled(big mistake) to stop it and flung an arrow. The buck dropped and Tyler grazed it's back. The deer walked bu me wondering what happened and I was in my tree about 80 -100 yards away laughing. He definately learned a lesson but hey, he hung the stand and he got first crack at it. That buck now has a grudge with Tyler and he wants to kill him bad. I told him he has bow season to do it. No guns and spikes. Here he is walking by my stand this morning.

Awesome picture . I wished I would have been there . Sorry Tyler didn't get the buck. At least he got a shot and experienced the adrenaline rush . We all learn by our own mistakes .
I had a doe with a fawn at 30 yards this morning . She caught a whiff of my scent and got nervous , then stood broadside stomping her foot . I let her walk . She would have been a string jumper. She calmed down , fed a little then waked straight away .

Awesome Rich....Glad you were able to watch the show. That will be a good story for around the camp fire. Looking back at all the hunts you too shared together

other than not being able to hunt saturday(sons car blew up), had a descent day sunday, well at least i saw a buck. yearling spike with 10 inch antlers. big body, nice color and coat, he was in good shape. he will be a dandy in 3 or 4 years. came under my stand and smelled of my pull rope but never looked up. he ate the heck out of acorns around me before he moved on. even though i set up in a bad spot with wind blowing in his direction he never winded me. was hoping one of the 8 bucks i saw 2 weeks ago was behind him. maybe next time.

nice pics, started to take a pic of the spike but i forgot my cell phone. i need to put that on the "most forgot things" thread. lol

I want to stop by and see how it went but I was riding with someone else this weekend.

we read the radar wrong thinking it was clearing out and got in the stand sat morning. it kept getting slacker and slacker then, BOOM!!!! frog strangler!!!! I wasnt wearing a rain jacket, the other 2 was. the only difference is I was clean and they were wet from sweat.

That's great Rich...looks like you've done a lot of work to the place.

We have and it is paying off. One day I would love to show you my place and take a look at yours. I still have a lot to do but we have worked our butts off for the last year. It sure is enjoyable. :)
