Got drawn for a meriam hunt

Raton, New Mexico, first week in May, NRA Whittington Center. I apply ever year for one of the 20 permits offered. Got drawn several years ago, and it was a blast. If you have never hunted meriams, they are noticably bigger than Easterns, big fan with white margin. IMO they are not as wary as an Eastern, and the Whittington center has a large population(or at least did the last time I was there). The only drawback is that a 1,000 mile trip is a long one to go on a turkey hunt. However, you see lots of elk, mule deer and antelope, and different country, where the great plains meet the rocky mountains. The pluses for me far outway the one minus.
 
Cograts on the draw and good luck,I drive 1500 miles every year out to nebraska to deer hunt,i have never turkey hunted out there but this year i am going to,we took 4 hunters out there with us last year and they all bought the turkey license and we let them hunt a ranch that we deer hunt and within 20 minutes all 4 of them had limited out on merriams.they are literally everywhere out there and they are huge,anyway didnt mean to ramble on in your post,good luck and dont forget the pics when you get back.

Will they let you shoot rifles at thier long range course?

Had a buddy just get back from a depredation/sniper course there... What a dream to be certified to shoot deer,elk, and antelope until your shoulder is sore.

All ranges, with the exception of shotgun are closed during any hunts. The last time I was there, my wife and I sat in our car close to the firing line on the 1,000 yard range and watched a herd of elk cross from right to left pretty close to the targets. Would have been some serious shooting! Particularly since it was April at the time. lol
 
I caught my misspelling of the word Merriam, as soon as I had posted, but thought so what! However, every time that I see it now, I feel compelled to correct it. LOL
