Raton, New Mexico, first week in May, NRA Whittington Center. I apply ever year for one of the 20 permits offered. Got drawn several years ago, and it was a blast. If you have never hunted meriams, they are noticably bigger than Easterns, big fan with white margin. IMO they are not as wary as an Eastern, and the Whittington center has a large population(or at least did the last time I was there). The only drawback is that a 1,000 mile trip is a long one to go on a turkey hunt. However, you see lots of elk, mule deer and antelope, and different country, where the great plains meet the rocky mountains. The pluses for me far outway the one minus.
