Set up for the Nemises thus morning with my 8yo girl. High expectations, as there were lots of gobbling last night on the roost...not to be. No gobbling this morning in the roost at all. A little after 630 we start heading back towards the house which is up and down two ridges and a mile away. Half way up the first ridge I think I hear a gobble. Stop and listen, sure enough he's all the way at the opposite end of the ridge we just left. I know where he's going, let's go Abby! Get to the bottom, and he gobbles a couple more times but moving away. Abby says "I'm hungry can we go home"? :bash: Well Okay he's going away anyway. So we go back up the ridge toward home...he gobbles again closer! Still over on the next ridge, so I look at Abby..."home" she says. I take her back most of the way until she can see the house and strip off everything but a pot call and a gun and start running the mile back to where he is. Get to where we last heard him and he gobbles once in a good spot for me to circle on him. Circle about another half mile and get on the same ridge he is, not hearing him gobble. Sweating and huffing and puffing I rest and catch my breath. Slowly work my way along the ridge listening for drumming or gobble and hear nothing...great. In desperation I let out a long series of yelps on the pot and he gobbles about 500 yds away. Do it again on mouth call and he hammers back! Move about 100 yds closer and look for a set up. Get a good spot and settle in. No gobbles. Pot call again a looong series and he gobbles in same apot. I throw my calls as far as possible away from me and sit and wait! In about 5 minutes he gobbles at maybe 150yds. 5 more minutes and I hear him walking and then there he is! Red head, beard, BOOM!! He rolls and I see another fly off. Get to him, and I'm not sure if he really is my nemises or not. Only looks like a 3 year old spurs not quit an inch, but a huge full beard. This was a great hunt, and even if it's not him, I will forever remember this one as one of the best I've had in all my years of turkey hunting.

^^^^^^^^^^The most important take away from the whole hunt. Patience and persistence get it done more times than not. You got to love it when your plan comes together after that much effort, congrats and thanks for sharing.

Fantastic hunt. Congrats!

But, I hate to tell you that Nemesis flew off. He sent his buddy in to investigate first :) !

Awesome man. Took me a long time to realize NOT calling kills me a lot more birds the CALLING most days. So hard not to call when they go silent but man it's awesome when it pays off

So true especially with this bird. I had him patterned after hunting him so many times. I "knew" exactly where he would go if I just let him do it. I HAD to humble myself and put the calls away once I had him interested. Now, I pray I can take that lesson and apply it to more areas of life and glorify the LORD even more!
