I couldn't find the original post from earlier this year. But Collins Farms offered members a great price on freezer beef. @MUP endorsed the meat. Well I picked up my half yesterday and had a ribeye last night. All I can say is DELICIOUS. Sorry no pics of the steaks but they were 1.25" thick, grilled to perfection (medium rare) and super tender!

A pic of our beef. I had to buy a second freezer. This is a 13cu.ft. freezer dedicated to just half a steer.

The price of 1/2 a steer has to be very expensive these days but you know that you have some good beef.
It was a great deal offered, $2.25lb. live weight. Add in the processing it came to around $4.85/ lb. Toss in the new freezer and it was still only $6.45/ lb. A person can't even buy a pound of hamburger at the store for that price these days.

Friendly tip, don't call it half a cow. Call it half a calf, or if you know it was a steer, call it half a steer. He did not sell you a cow.
Fixed.
Thanks for the tip. Where I'm from it was all dairy farms and they had cows. There was not much cattle being raised for market. I was not a part of either industry, hence my ignorance.

just a heads up. we raised cattle and always put up a steer we fed out on corn. one thing we learned (the hard way)- you have to check your freezer often. we had 3 or 4 chest freezers in our outbuilding and one went out and we didnt catch it in time. expensive mistake
