Called into work "sick" last night so I could hunt this morning. After sitting in the stand before daylight where it was spitting rain and wind howling, I was starting to second guess myself. Oh well…
Daylight finally came and had deer in the field from the start. I stopped counting does at 15 by 8:00. Mostly young does and yearlings including one doe with triplets.
About 8:30, I was cussing my yeti thermos for my coffee being like warm and not hot, I mean it was 60 outside. No reason it shouldn't be warm, when I turned and there this deer stood. I knew which one he was from trail cams, but still wanted to get a good look before I shot him. Looked 3.5 to me, but I just had to look at that rack the way the one side was growing backwards.
Anyway, I let the 7mag eat and he folded at about 60-70 yards. After almost passing out trying to load him, I got him to processer and after putting him on the scales, he hit a whipping 190 live weight. Def had the body, and after cutting the rack off, it was a good deer I'm happy with. The body made the rack look a lot smaller than what he actually was.
