Got a buddy that is going for his grand slam.

Anyone ever gone after the Goulds?
He was wanting some tips on outfitters and possibly a ballpark figure as to the cost.

Thanks.

Check into san miguel outfitters or casa nova outoors.....i would look in the sonora mexico area.....

Can you legally hunt them in the US now?

My only concern with a Mexico hunt would be if its a pure Goulds or a Merriam hybrid, Goulds are bigger but thats the only noticeable difference tht I can tell.

Not sure AT Hiker.

I know the same guy was talking about the one you go to Florida to kill and he said you had to get South of a certain highway to be "more" sure you are getting a pure one.

The Osceola Ruger?

Some "experts" claim the Osceola and Eastern do not hybreed, but I seriously doubt it. But the further south you go in FL the better chances of a Osceola you have. You can hunt a Osceola and go on a Disney vacation at the same time, it truly is "the greatest place on earth".

Let us know if he does kill a Goulds, I would like to see a pic of it and hear the story. I bet he will have fun doing it for sure.

The Goulds are not as plentiful as other species yet, but they have been introduced into several areas to populate. I have seen them hunted and shot on the outdoor channel right here in the states, but don't know if it was on public land or a private property.

I have a group heading to hunt Gould's this coming spring. I haven't hunted Gould's with this outfitter but have a friend that did last spring and I have hunted with him in the Yucatan. PM me for more info. Thanks

turkeyhuntr4,
I gave him your number today.
I looked in your profile and gave him your name.
Have you been in turkey hunter magazine or the turkey call magazine?
He asked about one and said he had seen your name, or so he thought.

So he may be calling you.

Yep I am in Turkey Country every issue. LOL, I'm the Regional Director for NWTF in East TN.
I talked with him and hopefully answered his questions.
Thanks for the hook up.

For the grand slam you don't need the Goulds. The royal slam includes the Goulds. Arizona has a huntable population but it is draw only last I heard.

LOL dang dude, didn't know you was like famous and stuff ;)

Thanks for taking the time to talk to him, I appreciate it. He is a good guy.

callemquacktn, you are correct about not needing the Gould's for the Grand Slam and also correct about drawing in Arizona, however they only draw for 5 tags. Drawing a Gould's tag in Arizona is like drawing an elk tag in TN. I wouldn't want to count on it for my Gould's bird.

Ruger, not famous at all. He sounds like a nice fellow. I enjoy helping people that are looking for info on places to turkey hunt.

LOL hey dude, you was in a magazine, you're famous. :D

He is a very nice guy and is eat UP with turkey hunting.

Makes a heck of a call too.

Used one of his the morning man killed his double bearded bird a couple years ago. :D
