Did any of y'all catch the finals. I'm not much on contest calling, but just sat here and watched it on youtube. Dave Owens spit pure turkey all over the stage and won. Amazing realism. His soft stuff is extremely deadly. Congrats to him. I sweat no one in the real turkey woods, but I sure hope he has left The Cypress by the time I get down there in 2 and a half weeks, and is not hunting the same Gobblers as me. If so, I may have to go way Old School Cracker on 'em and just splash water :D

I was there and watched it all. My number one was him about the entire time. I thought Jesse Martin did better than fourth, josh grossenbacher was great as well.
All were great and sounded like pure turkeys. Just a couple of slips here or there is what the judges noticed.

Also watched friction calling. That's tougher in my opinion because you actually have to use your sweaty shaky nervous hands.

Woodsman you're right I get nervous and slip when I play one for anyone other than myself.

I just watched it, and as previously stated, Dave is unbelievable on a diaphragm call. I have watched some of his public land hunts in the North Georgia mountains few years back on YouTube, but did not realize who he was, or that he was even a caller in the Nationals. Several of his videos are pretty good, mainly done in a woods environment which I like. Kudos to him!

Thanks. I'm ruined now. Just watched the one where they called the three gobblers on the logging road. Great video.

However, the anti-decoy elitists won't be happy :D !

I normally don't put much stock in calling contest winners but Dave is a real deal turkey killer along with being a world champion caller. I know at one point he was close to killing a turkey in every state that has a season. And he's only in his early 30's to boot.

I read somewhere in the last day or two that he had completed that goal. Not sure of the source, or if it was accurate, but I did read it somewhere. Regardless, just being close to that goal is major accomplishment that took a lot of time and effort.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he posted last year that he had finally completed it. That has to take some crazy planning time and dedication to complete.
