Last year my friend John talked me into trying for a Grand Slam. We started out the year in KS with no luck. We saw birds though despite the horrible weather.

The bird i shot at took a crossbow arrow right to the breast and ran away. Im sure the coyotes were happy. John had one at 8 yards and hit a fence! Horrible luck and bad shooting.

My luck in TN was jusr as bad. The only shot i had was on opening day. Pretty sure I hit that gobbler twice, but never found him in the tall grass. That was the only time I had a gobbler in range the entire season. (Using a shotgun)

This year it is back to KS for their archery opener. We have a farm leased where we saw dozens of birds! By leased we paid $200 for the rights to be the only hunters there for arrchery.

If i get a bird there John has a place in FL for me to hunt. Since I'm using a bow, I have two years for the attempt. Might need to hire one of you Middle TN veterans to help me get an Eastern.

Anyway it is going to be fun to try again. I think John has three Grand Slams, but archery has eluded him so far.

Does Kansas have an archery only turkey season?
Yes, the first week or so is youth, archery, and handicapped. Youth and handicapped can use shotguns. Wouldnt be a bad idea in TN to open the season like that, but as has been argued on this forum before handicapped will get "abused".

Are you trying to do it archery only?
Yes, I'm going to probably do it with my crossbow. I have a bow stored out in KS but Im not sure of how good a shape its in right now. My crossbow case is SO big I hate to check it. However Im not that confident in my bow on a small target at longer ranges.
