Grass on a sewer line?

I hunted an area this morning of about 90 acres. About 30 was hardwoods, about 40 cedar thicket, and the rest was a new sewer line just put in. I figured the grass the workers just seeded would not be good for the deer so I hunted the hardwoods. Saw quite a few deer but not the one I'm after. On the way out I walked through the new seeded area and there are tracks everywhere. Could the workers have used rye grass? And don't deer like rye?

Deer love rye grass. I over-seeded my cabin lawn with rye and the deer wore it out.

I am just not sure if that is what it is, but there were a lot of foot prints.
