I couldnt get anyone to go this morning, so I figured Id just go for myself. The hunt reminded me of why I love to turkey hunt. Didnt hear anything on the roost this morning, drove over to my friends land and heard one blowing the mountain down at about 0700. Went straight up 1000 feet in elevation to get on him, he would gobble his head off but never come on in. I ended up chasing this bird up one mountain back down, back up another, half way down, back up, halfway down then back up the mountain. Ended up setting up 8 times on him. Hens just kept leading him away with him gobbling every minute. I had him within 40-50 yards 3 different times, but always just behind a hill or a boulder. At 1030, his mood slightly changed, and he just started gobbling every breath, the hens left him. This time he was on top of a bluff though, so I had to find a seam and climb up it abut 30 foot just to where I could peak over the edge. I yelped once with a different diaphragm than I had been using and him and another LB came around the bench I was looking over with him just gobbling like crazy. The first one went through an opening at 50 yards, I didnt shoot, hate to shoot that far even though I know my gun will pattern great at the range, then the dominate bird came through at the same range. They were starting to head away so I thought what the heck, and dropped the hammer. He dropped but then flopped off another bluff, hit the bottom and rolled another 30-40 yards lol Anyway it was a great hunt, I love it when they challenge you like that but then it ends up working out. Im just wore out though, but I wouldnt have it any other way than mountain turkeys. Hevishot #7's.
