My wife is my best hunting partner, i love spending time with her in a blind. The past couple of seasons because of different interests, work, etc she's kinda got out of hunting.
I talked her into going with me yesterday evening and she's glad she tagged along.
She has always been a little recoil shy and always hated shooting my Rem 870 with 3" turkey loads. I reassured her that I would replace the 3" shells with 2 3/4" shells and the recoil wouldn't be so bad but that she would have to limit her shot to around 30 yards. I took my old Ithaca Mdl. 37 16 gauge which hasn't seen action in many years.
Long story short.....we got in the blind around 3:00 I called intermittently every 30 min or so with nary a response. I was loosing hope that we would see anything and knew she was starting to get bored. Around 6:00 she whispered.........I see three coming down the ridge. Because of the angle I couldn't see anything without moving. She again whispered, here comes another one and it's got a big red head. It ended up being two long beards a Jake and a lone hen. Unfortunately they were on the wrong end of the food plot but were slowly working their way in our direction. After what seemed an eternity I could finally see them out of her window and getting closer. The hen and Jake walked right beside the blind, I just knew they would see us but luckily they kept walking by not paying any attention to us. The two Toms were 20 yards or so behind putting on a show. When they both got in front of the blind she picked out the larger of the two and hammered him at 20 yards. As luck would have it, the other Tom was stunned for a moment giving me time to put him on the ground as well.
Sorry for the lousy pic, the sun was wrong and I didn't see the glare on the lens. Her Tom flopped off into the creek and got wet.
Her Tom had a 10" beard and 3/4" spurs mine was a little smaller. It was the best hunt i've had in many, many years!!!!
