I started walking to where I thought the birds would be roosted on the river this morning but before I had gone far one gobbled just 200 yards down on the creek. I got within about a 100 yards found a tree and set up. He gobbled at everything on the roost and then two more started gobbling across the river. As it got closer to fly down time I started hearing hens with the ones across the river. I made a fly down call and he gobbled. The next time he gobbled he was on the ground but he had flew down away from me toward the river. I started calling and he would answer to everything. I done some cutting and excited yelping and he double gobbled so I just settled in and waited. Where he was at I figured if he came he would walk right up the edge of a field but the next time he gobbled he was to my left over a pretty steep bluff on the creek. I answered with some soft yelps and he gobbled. This went on for a while so I just went silent. When he gobbled again he was was at the top of the bluff within 40 yards but it was so thick I couldn't see him. He stayed there gobbling, spitting and drumming for a long time. I had stayed quiet so I purred real soft and he couldn't stand it no longer. I heard him coming through the thick stuff and when he stepped clear and raised his head I made the shot at 20 yards. Best hunt I've had in a long time. 10-1/2 beard 1inch spurs.
