My dad and I made the 1.5 hr drive west this morning and was greeted to a hunt that I've hoped for since last season.

We had two going on opposite ends of some fields separated only by a few cedars. One was on fire but would not leave his area.

After an hour or so we changed setups moving closer. Got a few gobbles but soon silence. It was about time to meet up with the older fella that we hunt with over there. I had tried calling a couple of times to tell him we were on some but he had his phone on silent.

After it quoted down I told dad we should go to his house. Thankfully my dad told me to cackle one more time. I was greeted to a gobble so we sat back down. Waited a min or two and hit him again and he hammered closer.

Then my phone buzzed and it was Glenn asking if we were on one. Just as I was about to answer him, a red head periscoped over a rise in the field. "Glenn I'm looking at a gobbler. I'll call you back".

He crested the hill and slowly worked our way strutting. Dad was positioned looking left so he would have no shot. The bird hung up on the other side of a cedar. I tried soft calling but he didn't respond. He gobbled a couple if times but wasn't moving. I was afraid he'd grow impatient and wander off, so I turned my head behind and cutt again. He hammered and came on around the cedar and into range.

Only a 2 yr old with1/2" spurs and 9 inch beard but was a solid 19 lbs .
