Gruden on Winston's Ability

Gruden's not the coach for the Bucs, Lovie Smith is. From what I understand, Lovie Smith is good with defense, but not so good with offense.

If he can make smart decisions and stay out of trouble off the field there's no doubt in my mind he's got the skills to be an NFL qb. Time will tell.

You could be right Mudbone , there is an obsession with Winston. I have 2 threads on him and redblood has 6. Maybe he likes Bieber also.

If not the bucs, I expect him to stay in Florida. Jags got 3rd pick and would not pass on a Florida state player of that caliber to just get fans back in the seats. I just don't like Winston's NFL potential. We got burned by Young in TN, Tebow never was able to hold a career, Newton is ok in Carolina, but come on, do you see Superbowl there. That style QB does not hold up in NFL. You can flood the college ranks with them, but in the big league you need pocket potential. Winston might be able to adapt, I wish him luck, but right now he don't have the plant feet and throwing motion to be a true success. Imo

Winston has played Pro Style offense for the last 16 years. I think he will do very well. Winston is a pure pocket passer.Without injury I believe Bucs go to the Super Bowl within 3 years. IMO. Young scored 6 on the wonderlic which shows he was a slow thinker even with all that talent. Reminds me of EJ Manuel. Mariota is a run if the first guy is covered.Don't think he will last long.All the successful QB"s have scored at least 24 except for Marino and he was low,about 15 if I remember.
New Orleans is trying to maybe trade with Tampa,draft picks and Brees. That would be terrible for Tampa

He has to work more on that foot plant on dropbacks, get a firmer base, and a much stronger release with shorter stroke. He throws the football like a pitcher in baseball. To long of stroke, to long of release. He has the arm and shoulder strength, that is not in question. With a good QB coach and practice, he might succeed. I wish him the best, as I do Mariota. But I just have a gut feeling his attitude and work ethic might hold him back. That imo

He has been working with a qb guru ever since the bowl game,out in California. He has played baseball since 6 years old and is working to change his motion.Good luck to him and Mariota.
