I have a question about a gun my father in law gave us. It is a Marlin model 55 goose gun with a 36" barrel and full choke.

I just put my slug barrel on and really do not want to mess with taking it off for fall turkey. Has anyone ever used the Marlin 55 for turkey hunting and what is the effective range? I have heard out to 40 and seen guys hunt deer with them in VA with buck shot, but have never heard from anyone that shot a turkey with one.

You should be good to go to 40 yards or so with that 36" barrel but I would pattern it to be shure. One thing to remember it is not recommended to shoot the denser than lead shot through are barrel that is not made for it. Just something to think about before running a good barrel.

Is that that crazy a$$ bolt action? A friend has one in 10ga and I was thinkin about getting it, putting a sitting bipod on it, and turning it into a fixed position turkey howitzer.

The bullets i shoot are Remington Premier magnums. I think they are copper coated, but that is it. don't know if that is denser. I don't shoot the hevi shot, so I think i will be fine.

I patterened it. it was good to 40 so i am fine with that.

Yes. it is a bolt gun. mine is in 12 ga and it is super long. I will need something under the barrel. I shot it yesterday off hand and it is strange looking that far down a barrel to a bead.
