HAAP

Been a few years since I hunted it. But they have a bunch of stands already placed in different areas. You draw out which area you're gonna hunt in the morning. You can redraw also if you don't want to hunt that spot. You can also come back at 11am I thinks the time and redraw again. You can bring a climber I seen people with blinds. As far as blinds already set up I can't say. Only thing I seen set up was stands.

Thanks, I'm to the point I don't climb any more. I was curious because they indicate that the stands aren't very compatible for bows.

No stands are easy to walk up. Just lean stands they've put out. The biologist name use to be Bruce cole and he's got volunteers. They put up the stands with best chance to kill.

@Biggun4214 what part of East Tennesee are you in? I'm in Greeneville so I imagine you are probably somewhere in the greater Tri-City area.

I haven't hunted HAAP the past two years due to medical problems, but I used to hunt it nearly every year. As a disabled veteran, I was in the highest category for the drawings, and since 2008, there was only one year I applied and did not get drawn.

Anyway, each year I hunted there, the stands were always home-made ladder stands built out of treated 2"x4" and 2"x6" lumber chained to trees. Most stand seats were around 18 to 20 feet high, but some up on the mountain may have been even higher if it was on very steep ground. If you have problems sitting for long stretches at a time, try taking one of those thick rubber cushions with you and that should help.

I always enjoyed the hunts over there as there are some monster bucks roaming that ground. EHD has hit 2 or 3 times during the past 10 years and it hit the herd pretty hard around 5 years back, so the local herd there may be in a rebuilding mode.

Hope this helps you out! If you are bowhunting, given a choice, try to get an area on the highway 11-W side of the Holston River. Most of the stands that side of the river usually see a lot of movement. Good luck if you get drawn.

I live in Jefferson County so we will probably leave home between 230-3 to make sure we get there on time.
In 1983 on one of the first hunts I hauled a deer that dressed 200lbs for a hunter. It was killed in what they called the ball field at that time. The hunt club offered me a club permit that year and I turned it down. Forty years later I get drawn.

When the hunts started Joe Lady was the wildlife manager and the Colonel was a Cajun.

My baby brother got in on them that first year too. I think that was in 1983. I was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii at the time, so I didn't even get to put in for it.
Yes it was 83. Darted a few deer and caught a few turkeys in 82 & 83.
Had a rocket net set in the igloo area that I could sit in the guard shack and watch.
The deer knew the difference between Army green and TWRA green trucks. Lol
