It was a busy week with meetings almost everyday and trying to get some hunts in between them, but I was able to make it happen when it counted. Thanks to a buddy who has land near where I had my meetings I was able to hunt a little more than I thought I was going to get to and take a couple birds off of his place as well. It was also nice to spend some time with some old friends and meet a couple new ones this week. It was fun and I hope we can do it again soon.
Bird#1.......I set up on a gobbling bird and he went away with some hens so I moved along and did some walking and calling. I eventually found a nice looking hardwood ridge and just sat down and did some blind calling near some fresh sign. It didn't take but a couple sets of yelps and I had a bird answering and headed my way. He was a nice bird!
Bird #1

1 1/8" Spurs

Bird#2.........I was able to catch a 2 year old in a bottom full of mature thinned pines without any hens and had a nice hunt with him gobbling a ton all the way to the gun, just in time to get ready and go to a meeting.
Bird#2

1" Spurs

Bird#3........This hunt from beginning to end lasted maybe 20 minutes which includes my walk in and out, but he was the biggest of my three for the first week. I was walking in for an afternoon hunt and caught him alone in a good spot to kill him. He come hard and fast and I barely got my gloves and mask on before he tried to ravage me. I sure like it when they try though.
Bird#3
