A guy that I work with told me today that he uses play sand to attract turkeys. He said that he just puts down the sand and they will tear it up. Has anyone ever heard of doing this or is he full of it?
You know this is probably one of those things that you would probably say is stupid and would never try but here it goes. I went to Lowes and got me 2 bags of play sand and chunked it out so I guess we'll find out, pics to follow if I have any luck with it. But its mine now if this becomes the thing...
i could see a bird using it for dusting as sand is a great find for a bird to get off mites and bugs but not sure if they would really seek it out or it "attract" them
Did a google search, and the only mention was a forum where a guy built a form and then put the play sand in it. Said his soil is mostly clay, and that there weren't any area for the birds to dust. Said they loved it. Makes sense!
Kryptonite might work better. The good lord gave a turkey the equipment to scratch and dust and when the bugs get on that old gobbler,he knows what to do.
