with shooting 3" shells in a 3.5" shotgun and it adversely effecting the shot pattern.

If the wife starts turkey hunting, she may have to use my 3.5" 870 SM and shoot 3" shells for a little less recoil on her. I was wondering if the pattern would suffer doing this.

I got a 870 with 3" chamber and on another forum everyone with a SM gets better pattern than me when they shoot 3" shells out their guns. Same choke and shells and they still get better patterns :( . I think the Sm has a little longer forcing cone in them.

Dang Jeremy a 3" is gonna knock the fire out her!

Ah she can handle it, she is just full of fire!!! I think she will be ok, thinking about just letting her shoot my 3" 11-87.

I quit shooting 3.5s out of my 870 SM. The 3.5's didn't pattern good enough to put up with the kick.

Man I quit the 3.5's several years ago I do all my turkey and waterfowl hunting with 3's.

Yes sir. 3.5s is to much of a beatin'.
Grizzly your wife should be fine, she won't be thinking about the recoil when its time to drop the hammer on them thunder chickens.
