At 33 years old, this is the 1st year I've ever hunted turkey. One of the many reasons I've waited so long to do so is because I'm horrified of snakes. Can't stand those darn things.

Well needless to say...on my 2nd day of hunting, guess what I saw...A 5 ft long chicken snake crossing a trail 5 yards in front of me :o Freaked me the heck out. I forgot I even had a shotgun in my hand. I politely let it cross the trail before I finally decided to proceed on my way. Besides a few deer, it was the only wildlife I saw the whole day.

Get some snake boots for prevention, but I have never been bit or struck at, and I have hunted some snakey places. Don't sweat the non-poisonous ones and kill the poisonous ones. Your chances are probably better for getting struck by lightning in your living room than getting bit.

Swamp...I'm originally from Memphis. I know exactly where you're coming from with regards to snakes. I grew up fishing Casper Creek, Glenn Springs, and Poplar Tree. Those 3 lakes probably have more snakes than Middle and East TN combined

Seen a good cotton mouth this morning. He was only about 2 feet from my leg. But you won't have to worry about that one any more.

Just part of turkey season, I see plenty over the course of each year. I see several rattlesnakes here every season in the mtns, and always see numerous cottonmouths when I down south. I see snakes most every time I am out, after it warms up.

I pass on killing them, either poisonous or non-poisonous, just not my duty to rid the world of snakes. I figure we just happen to cross paths and move on, leaving them alone.

I have been struck at, bit, sat down next to, and dang near grabbed poisonous snakes. Just part of playing the game in the spring.

I will take snakes over ticks any day.

DANG! If I have encounters like that, you'll find my stuff in the classified section.
