I'm just curious if other folks are finding their birds heavier this yr than normal. I know it's early in the season and the birds will be a tad heavier, but this seems a bit crazy to me. Birds on the farms I've been huntin for yrs now usually average bout 21 lbs or so and a 23 lb bird has always been a whopper. I've checked my scales and they're accurate. Just curious... I know the bird I took this am was pushin the 27 lb mark and he was a Goliath, heaviest bird I've ever taken In my 18 yrs of Turkey huntin...

Bobby that was a Very Exceptional Bird you took this morning one of the Heaviest I heard of this yr by far mostly whats coming from my neck of the woods are your typical 20-23 pounders, they will lose weight by the 15th-20th of April!!!!

Usually 20 lbs!!!

looks like it to me. my three last years birds were 23 and 22's on scales. the bird i have been chasing today for 4 hours will probably go better than that. even from 125 yards he was huge and his beard was clearly visible. maybe i can tag his arse in the morning, hopefully.

the biggest bird i have ever saw was 26lbs about 10 years ago, and wouldnt have believed it if i hadnt saw the tag. i believe he was being fed though, knowing who killed it.

I weighed this bird twice, checked my scales for accuracy with known weight, and weighed him again to be sure. And sho nuff he was pushin the 27 lb mark. I knew he was a bigun, but wow. He looked like a recliner coming down the ole loggin rd to me, doin that dam micheal jackson moonwalkin shuffle.

The ones Ive killed have actually seemed to be lighter than normal. 17 to 18lbs on average when my birds usually run from 20 to 23lbs.

Birds on my farms just aren't as old as they used to be... therefore they aren't nearly as heavy. The two birds we took this week were 21 and 23lbs each. In the past, I've killed one at 26lbs, two at 25lbs, and a bajillion 23-24lbers. The record off my farms was a sho-nuff certified 29 1/2lb'er. That toad had 1 3/4" hooks. My cousin has also taken a 27 lbr off the farm around 6 or 7 years ago.

There is one toad still on the farm I believe will go 25lbs. He was almost twice the size of a 2 yr old bird when he got close to him. And he is taller than a yearling doe he chased off when she got too close to his hens. :)

I've heard of some monsters killed this year! From the people I personally know : 3 in the 23lb range, one 26lb range, and one 27lb range!!!!

Only seen a hen so far. Don't know what is up here in West TN. At the end of deer season I had over 30 hens and 6 or more toms go by me all the time. I guess they read the signs Turkey season open !!!!
