My friend Jim Ryser came down from indiana on Saturday evening with his camper for a couple days of hunting in TN. I'm headed to camp for the next few days, but I took two days to hunt with Jim, and this morning (day 2) was the day.
Jim writes music for my videos, as well as a couple other shows like THP and Pinhoti Project. Besides the musical talent, he's one of the most genuinely good dudes I know. We had a blast chasing birds on two different tracts of public the past two days.
So this morning, I picked a spot on the map that I hadn't been to, only had a small amount of intel from the general area, but no info on the spot I picked. It looked good on the map, so we headed out and found the parking spot and walked out the trail at first light.
Heard at least 6 or 7 birds in different directions, about half of them were across the property line. Picked a bird to chase after, with some good backup if it didn't work out.
This bird we picked was roosted on the property line, and flew down into a private field.
Long story short, we played around with this bird for a while and called him across the property line and Jim shot him as soon as he hit public dirt. It was somewhere around 8am. I ran a wingbone and a glass call while Jim sweet talked with a mouth call. Took a team effort to call this bird in.
