This weirdness happened to me only on a couple of practice shots last year, but it's getting out of hand now. I got my compound restrung about a month ago - I hadn't shot any since last season.

I get good groups with my field points, but about one in five arrows is a flyer. It's happened with all of my arrows, so it has to be the bow. I'm not talking about a regular flyer. This sucker strays about 6 feet to the left at 20 yards. Considering all my other shots are within inches, there's something majorly wrong.

I thought the arrows were maybe not inside the hole of my whisker biscuit or maybe I'm not completely knocked on the bow string, but after making sure of those things several times and still unleashing these unholy man-killers throughout my neighborhood, I'm pretty sure it's neither of those things.

Since it happened a couple times last year before I had the bow re-strung, I doubt it has anything to do with the new string.

Any ideas what this could be? I'm at a complete loss. Thanks so much in advance.

More info. Bow? Cam type?split limb or solid? I would just inspect the bow very close to make sure everything is in it's place. Inspect limbs for cracks too.

Dumb question, but do you shoot with both eyes open? Struggle with eye dominance issues?

My buddy shot with his left eye closed. He decided to learn to shoot with both open. Every now and then it's like he forgets to aim correctly and his left eye takes over. Those shots are usually WAY off.

Mine did that and we about went nuts trying to figure it out. No noticeable cracks in the limbs. John decided to just tear it down and look at everything. My top limb had a small crack that was covered by the limb pocket. New limb-problem solved. It is worth checking.

That don't sound good at all.. Could it be something like.. when the guy put your string on your bow. He cranked down too much on his vise and cracked your limb without knowing?

Holy crud! I don't know if this is it or not, but I just started shooting with both eyes open. The funny thing is that I've been doing it more lately so I can see where these flyers are going.

I've always thought I was right eye dominant, but I guess it's possible that my eyes are getting confused or something. I'll check this out tomorrow and also check to see if I have a cracked limb or something.

Thanks so much for playing. I'll report back.

My brother had a old hoyt raptor that did that. we found out it had a cracked limb but he never fixed it so I don't know if that was the cause of the problem or not.

cracked limb(s). shooting indoor league, i would shoot 4 fives and 1 arrow off the paper. after getting frustrated trying to figure out the problem, we discovered both limbs were cracked.

Sounds like the arrow is sinking into the biscuit at full draw.
Time to check limbs and number arrows on the vanes.

take shots at 15 yards till you figure it out.

Guys,
I can't be 100% sure yet, but I think it's the dominant eye deal. I've shot about 25 arrows since with my left eye completely closed, and I haven't had a stray arrow yet. Normally, I would have had a few strays in there. I'll keepp shooting, but I think that's it. Strange! Thanks again.

I'm glad if that is all it is. Had me worried about your limbs.

It would seem odd if limbs were cracked but most of my shots were still on target while a stray occurred only sporadically.

In my world, user error is usually the culprit. ;)

that wouldn't be strange at all. shooting indoor league sometimes i would have 4 x's and 1 arrow off the paper. sometimes all the way into the next lane. BOTH limbs were cracked. but i hope it's the eye thing. good luck.
