Ok fellas I need some wisdom from yall. Heres the setup, trail cam wathching the forest floor below a broadcast feeder. Feeder is hanging over the split of a 6 inch white oak 16 foot in the air. How do I keep the coons out? Can I cut the middle out of a metal garbage can lid and wrap it around the tree? What has worked for you all?

When you figure that out ,you can start working on world peace.

No way known to man to keep a coon out of corn, they are clever

Coon can smell corn a mile away, you just have to learn to co-exist with the coons,or even give them a pile on the ground to keep them out of the hanging corn, kinda like keeping squirrels out of bird feeders.

Well I made a skirt out of a garbaf=ge can lid. But my deer are just getting used to my feeder and I dont wanna scare them with a big blue lid. What if I build a bracket attatched to the tree extending 2 foot with a pulley on the end securing my feeder with the rope? Hell guess im just thinking out loud.

Good luck with that. You should see some of the pictures i have from coons in my feeder. it was a bump type and they would hang by their hind feet from the top of the bucket and smack the ball to let the corn out. They would empty the 5 gallon bucket in 1 or 2 nights. I Never found anything short of having it levitate in thin air to keep them out.

Dont worry about the blue lid scaring the deer. They associate your site with food, and they will get used to the lid, regardless of color.
Lid sounds like an idea to me.
