Hen Decoy Positions

They're all the same, right? I don't believe so.

I prefer the alert hen over a feeding hen because of their versatility. I can use the hen by herself or in the breeding/nesting position. There are decoys made specifically for the breeding position, but I made a stake that can convert any decoy into this position.

The breeding positions can be deadly when occupanied by a jake/gobbler decoy. Also, the nesting position can be just as deadly during the latter half of the season.

If I'm only using one decoy to run n' gun, I'll use the breeding/nesting type position. Rarely have I had a gobbler hang up one he sees the decoy. With standing hens, the gobbler will usually wait for the hen to come to him. But, if he sees her in the laying position, he will try to come breed her or bump her off her nest.

Agree, I have had the most success placing the hen decoy in the breeding position.
