I was on my way home from picking up my son from his mom's house and we were going through an area that I usually see 5 to 10 turkey every other day. This evening as we passed through I almost had a wreck trying to get a count. There were between 45 and 50 birds in the pastures.

The area is three pastures seperated by a two small branches that feed into a larger creek. There is a wooded ridge on the west side of the creek. I had contemplated not asking the owner if I could hunt the area but I don't think I can resist the temptation any longer...

All they can say is no.

Make a plan first. Do you know them or any of surrounding property owners? Kids go to school together, etc?

Try to find something with someone you know who they may know, and go from there.

Good luck. You can never have too many places to turkey hunt.

BTW, if you get access, and you need backup, give me a yell :D !

It's a weird piece of property. If you are facing it there are small pastures to the left and right divided by a creek in the center, and a washout gulley to the right, and a larger pasture beyond the gulley. The ridge starts at the left and bears left. The smalle branch follows the ridge until it feeds into the larger creek. The owner left a thin line of brush and trees on the pasture side.

All three are owned by different people and they all run cows. I understand peoples reservations and there have been some bad experiences, and that is unfortunate. But do they have to judge us all by those? My grandparents ran a grade B dairy up until I was a teen, I think I can tell the difference between a deer or a turkey and a Gurnsey or a Black Angus. I'm begining to wonder if some of the farmers around here should give up cows and try and domesticate these turkeys. There are definitely more of them! Sorry had to rant a little...

Yes our kids go to school together, rather their grandkids go to school with mine. My dad has probably fixed most of their lawnmowers or two cycle equpment. So I do have a foothold...
