Behind my house

Well my neighbors house to be exact.

Neighbors were sitting on their back deck watching while I snuck up on this bird. No he is not tame, he almost busted me once when I heard him start to putt and lost sight of him. Then he went back to gobbling and I threw some clucks at him. He really thought I was a hen for the longest time because he would not stop looking for the source of my calls. Thanks to the big oak tree that kept me hidden and the Tndeer hat that camo'ed my head :D

He's the same bird I posted a pic of a few days ago gobbling on the roost.

CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO - it's less than 3 minutes long. Turn volume up and play in full screen... I can hear him spit in the video, can you?

Now for some pics which I also took between videos

This gives a perspective on how close i was - maybe 20-25 yards but I didn't step it off

Finally after getting sore and stiff from sitting in an awkward position... he saw some hens out in the field, and suddenly he had a new idea and made a beeline for the field...

I was able to get up and walk home without getting busted... if this bird is still around when season opens, and he is willing to come into my backyard, he is in a lot of danger...

Too funny. :D
Man either I practice with my bow religiously till my arm hurts for the next 2 weeks, or I put in a light dove load in the 12ga and blast his head and risk getting the cops called.

How far are your neighbors from your backyard and do they hunt too?

As long as you are not creating a danger to the public and are shooting in a safe direction.... nothing that can be done about it... you're hunting on your property.

I bet they would find a way to get me in trouble, franklin cops can be that way sometimes... but still, I would not shoot if anyone or their pet was outside. Neighbors house is very close but not a risk shooting my backyard if nobody is outside. They don't hunt but he does have a BB gun for popping squirrels on their bird bath. Basically I might just piss people off or scare them with a gunshot... you never know who is going to call the cops and I would have to want that bird real bad to deal with explaining things to the police.

But then, I have done acid bombs made out of a water bottle in the middle of the day and nobody called the cops. If only independence day was in April then people would think it was a firework :D

I would shoot him in the face if i got a chance

The police can talk all they want.... Hunting trumps city ordinances about shooting guns... as long as you are not creating a danger to the public, no worries.... if they want to rattle your cage, tell them to hold on, your calling your local TWRA officer to speak with them.... educate them on hunting laws.

Now that is a little more involved when hunting public lands close to dwellings as you have to have owners permission to hunt within 100 yards of it. A dwelling is a HOUSE, not a shed, barn, or detached garage (unless it has an apartment above it)....

Re: Here's some more gobbling video & pics

yep I'm aware that hunting laws trump city ordinances. Just depends if I'm in the mood to talk to cops when that burd comes into my yard. I bet if he does come in during season I'll be ready with the gun lol

Re: Here's some more gobbling video & pics

Put a blind up and shoot him with a bow if you're worried about your neighbors whining at the sound of the gun. Otherwise do like Rockhound said and shoot him in the face. That's what I'd do.

Re: Here's some more gobbling video & pics

#1 excuse if cops come to the door is "but everyone on Tndeer said to do it!"

kidding aside there may be a boom if he stays around till march 31

Awesome video. I am weird in that if I had one in the yard he would live, and I would just enjoy being able to have him around to listen to and watch.

that's a good point. And they dont come by our house very often although deer are frequent. I doubt he will still be there come season but if he is, he is in danger. A couple years ago there was a big ole tom with a thick long beard, and he was strutting around with his bearded hen. That was cool but I only saw them a couple of days and never saw them again. Birds seem to come and go at my place.

yup that is how it was for me for years. I had more then a few toms in the yard and a few decent 120ish deer when i lived out near Hartsville. Just never could shoot them, liked seeing them and having them around to watch and listed. Besides blasting them from my deck never really hit me as hunting lol.
