Needing some help here.

Is there a way I can make a tape based on the markings already on a target sight from the factory?

I just got a Axcel AX3000 and it has marks on it from the factory. For some reason I was thinking with one of the software programs (OnTarget2 or TAPes) that I could select the sight that I have, and it already have that info in there...and all I had to do was tell it what marks equaled the yardages I had set, and then it fill in the blanks. I just spent a good amount of time setting 2 yardages DEAD center and have the numbers wrote down. I just want a tape to fill in the gaps now.

I've got 20 and 40 dead nuts almost robin hooding centered.

Crow, the engraved marks on your AX3000 serve as reference marks for sighting in. For example when you sight in at 20 yards your indicator may be setting between the 25 and 26 etched mark, then you look the numbers on the top round dial and it may be setting on 7, making your 20 yd mark 25.7. Then proceed to shoot in marks for 30, 40, 50, and 60, with the 20 being the least critical.

Once you have the marks shot in and recorded then you would enter that data into your sight tape software. The software then does the rest. You will also need two other critical measurements that someone will have have to help you with and they are the center of peep to center of arrow shaft at full draw, and center of peep to center of sight pin at full draw.

The sight tape software knows the click increments of your respective sight. There is no way that I know of to get an accurate tape without shooting the marks.

Thanks Dixie!! This is my first official "target" sight. I have no idea what I'm doing with it. I was trying to transition from multi pins to a single pin via the slider sight but done some horse trading and got the AX3000. I didn't even know there were numbers on top of the dial until your post.

Now it makes sense on the page in OnTarget2 about the + numbers and such. Gotcha.

On the Tapes program, I printed out their version of a sight scale that I was suppose to sight in at two yardages...and then input it on a page with what number on their scale my yardages came in at. I actually cheated that, and just measured my previous marks with a caliper and then measured the same on their sheet and printed off a tape from 10 to 50 yards. It is CLOSE...closer than my previous tape with pencil marks lol but no where as detailed as what OnTarget2 can probably get with the each individual click setting and those measurements you spoke of.

I actually had Ontarget2 made a tape based on the programs calculations from my setup and it was WAY off. So manually inputting the info is gonna be the ticket.

Crow did you enter the peep to pin and peep to arrow calculations? When I first got OT2 I skipped that step and my tapes were way off at past 40 yards. Now I put in all my measurements and that peep to pin/peep to arrow calculations and it works.

No I haven't got that far into it. I'm actually starting to feel the pressure of running out of time for the Florida shoot; was looking for a shortcut to get me in the ball park range I guess. I just used the OT2's "program calculation" mode...and printed off a tape to compare it to the one that TAPes did. From the looks of it, OT2 is going to be the more spot on accurate one, IF all the manual steps are followed. Whereas TAPes is for the simple ball park range tape builder to get ya close to/kinda sorta there. The one I printed out for it is pretty doggone close though. I hadn't even shot my bow beyond 40 yards but went ahead and printed the tape out to 50. Just playing around I decided to see how close it was. I shot 2 arrows and put them in a tennis ball sized shot out spot in my 3D target. I thought that was pretty good for a simple tape.

Right now I think I can go to Florida and at least shoot clean even rounds, and maybe even snag a 12 or two to put me around 4-6 up per round. I'm anticipating 30 up to win it. My prediction is 32 up 1st, 28 up 2nd, and 26 up for 3rd. Then the remainder of the top 10 will be in the upper teens to low 20 up range. I'm also thinking it is going to be one of the bigger classes of the shoot. A lot of guys are gonna drop down out of K45 and probably will swing a lot from the Hunter class as well.

I used TAPes before and following the prescribed method it makes a good tape. Good luck in FL!

Crow, make sure that when your indicator sets dead on the engraved number that the round elevation knob reads "0". If it does not it will need to calibrated. To calibrate the knob set loosen the allen set screw on the top knob and while holding the bottom knob, turn the elevation knob to read a zero while the indicator is spot an engraved mark.

You can also adjust the tension for the elevation screw by loosening the bottom knob's allen set screw and while holding the top knob turn the bottom knob until the desired tension is achieved.

When you enter the sight marks into OT2 they should be expressed as an example 20 = 25+7. It's the plus sign that is used to express the decimal.

If you ever have any trouble or questions about your sight I'll do my best to help you. If you're at the Pro/Am got see Tommy on the Tru-Ball trailer!

What class are you shooting this year?

I will be at Florida. We ought to meet up one day down there and put a face to a name. I am shooting Open C. And it is gonna be a schooling lesson for me. The only thing I have for an "open setup" is my sight....in which you've just told me more about it than what I know lol. My stabilizer is just a 12" with a short 6" back bar. I'm gonna be outgunned for sure. But I'm still gonna give it the best I can.

Crow,

We need to shake paws and slap jaws for sure! Lol! I'll shoot the Senior Open Class. Don't know the range yet, I'll register once I get there.

If it helps I'll be toting a TN Orange Hoyt PCE and have an all black shooters chair. The B-Stinger back is loaded with one of a kind brass and stainless weights. I'll post some pictures of those later, that might help find me in a sea bows, stabilizer, and chairs!Lol!
