Can anyone tell me what the IBO of a Martin Cougar Magnum was when they came out? I believe it was first produced around 1979-1980.

Back in the early days they used AMO speeds not IBO for speed reference . AMO is @ 60lbs. , 30" draw , with a 540 gr. arrow . Most bows in those days were around 210-220 fps AMO speed .
It was a very smooth shooting dual wheel bow back in those days . I remember wanting one , but ended up with a PSE .

Thanks Radar. The reason I was asking is when my son got his Diamond Edge I was taliking about how much technology has changed and how todays bows are so much faster at lower poundages. I compared the Edge to my dad's Cougar Mag and told him they were probably comparable and he thought there was no way it was as fast.

The old Couger Mag was a nice forgiving dual wheel bow with a long ATA and long brace height , but was no speed bow .

I think really 210-220 would be pushing the limit on the bow. Probably more like 200. Most folks during that time frame were still shooting around 55 - 60 lbs. It wasn't until around the late 80's alot of folks started shooting 70-80 lbs so they could start picking up some speed.
