Here's the thing, I have a Sony P52 build. It was my first ever build. I didn't like the weak flash after I did it. I have since redone it. Not because of the flash, I just wasn't happy with how it turned out the first time. This go around, I added a flash enhancer. I am still not a bit happy with the flash. I have thought about redoing it with a slave. Also, about doing an IR build. I have actually thought about taking the camera and board out and trying to sale them to help on some more builds I am going to do. I don't want to sell the complete build because 1. I don't think I would get much out of it and 2. I don't want to sell it to someone and it mess up. I would probably be happy with it after adding a slave, whether I did white flash or IR. I guess I am just hesitant to spend more money on this camera since I haven't been real happy with it so far.

The P52 is terrible for flash thats for sure. After learning that first hand, I was suprised that some offered them in builds without slaves. You might like a slave, I dont know. I personally dont because it adds so much to the build, more batteries, more wires, more to mess up. So I guess Im saying that I would just get a camera with a stronger flash and do a rebuild, using whatever components you can from the old build. Just my opinion, there is no right answer.

I can agree with Steven on most of his points concerning the slave. I dont like the added expense, extra batteries etc As well as I agree if you are not happy with the P52 I would redo the build with another camera. I have actually used the same box on another build just reverse the sides, and seal in the holes you already have for your lens and flash with liquid nails.

I dont like the flash enhancers either. I dont think they make enough difference, and prefer a clear quality glass.

However here is where I may disagree with you guys... I think the flash on the 52 is fine, but like many other cameras it has its place in the field.

I prefer a p32 anyday over the 52...but
that being said are you sure the flash on your camera is actually good and not weak due to age?

I like to use the P52 on a good delay, and use a 512mb card.

Actually no I don't know if it's weak. I am not exactly sure how I could tell that. I do know looking at it, it seems plenty bright when it goes off. I don't have another P52 to compare it to. Here is a pic from the P52

Here is a pic from an s600 from the same tree, although the angle may be a little different. The cameras weren't on it at the same time.

Well comparing the 600 (in my opinion one of the best flashes) isn't a good comparison...however the P52 should be much better than that. I have some parts p52 cams I could mail to ya if you wanna change the flash out and try.

Pm me an address if u like

Yeah I know the best P52 can't hang with an S600. I just kinda wanted to show how the area was lit up. I will probably look into the baby slaves you are talking about Jim. For some reason I am leaning to goin to an IR. Maybe just to have one I don't know.

I am not sure as I have only done maybe 10 IR cams, but if the camera doesnt have a very strong flash, wouldnt the IR basically amplify the dullness of your pic? I think it takes a really strong flash to get a nice IR pic? Not positive, but just thinking out loud. Jim or others may know for certain

If I did do an IR, I was going to add a slave to it so it shouldn't matter I don't think. I know since I would be adding a slave anyway I could just leave it white flash but I would like to have one IR homebrew for a place where I didn't want people to see the flash.
