Vols open as 9.5 favs.
Y'all think too low, too high??
Personally, I think too low. With the vols offense clicking like it is without jalen, I see em hanging 50+ on the dores the way vandys d has been playing lately, and with their lackluster offense I don't think they can hang with the vols in wut shud be a shootout. I see vandy beating themselves on offense. But who knows. Can't ever tell what vandy is gonna play like. If webb is 100% over the ankle injury he shud be able to run for a cpl hundred tho. If they can keep Barnett off of shurmur, (doubtful) maybe he can throw it around a lil but I doubt it. The vols just scored a crazy amount of points on a team that torched vandy last week.
I am excited about the game though. This will be the first vandy game I've attended this year.
What y'all think?

Oh, GO DORES!!

Dores will have an above average game running the ball no doubt. Webb is a load with a good defense. Shurmur will prob make some throws also. Vols DBs are pretty bad. Sutton is back but very rusty.

Vandy D should contain some of the Vols scoring that you saw against UK and Mizzou. Cunningham will prob be assigned to keep Dobbs in check and make him throw. They have been having some success throwing but Vandy has better DBs than the teams TN has been having success against.

It will he a close game IMO.

Webb will have 250
I could see that if his ankle ain't bugging him too bad. He hasn't been himself the last few weeks. Looked ok last night but he can't cut the way he is capable of yet.

I hope coach mason read your post so he will know what to do about dobbs. If he uses Cunningham to keep dobbs in check it could change the game. Dobbs could single handedly destroy the DORES if he runs wild. I don't think dobbs throws as well as lock so maybe vandy won't get burnt all day deep.

I think it's going to be a low scoring game . Turnovers will
Likely predict the victor .

Shoops Swiss cheese D tho
Everyone has run on them lately yes. Not typical of a shoop d. I still really have faith in shoop. I think there is other issues in vols football. I seriously think the players do not like coach jones, or something. It's as if everyone is seeing the real butch and not liking him.
Shoop has been great everywhere except the last few weeks of vols football. Yes he is very aggressive with blitzing corners, and other stunts which has gotten him burned before but maybe the players havent yet learned his style completely and players are having to play out of position. I'm no footbLl genius but I do think shoop will improve the defense at UT overall.

Vandy has been MUCH better this season about turning the ball over. I hope you are right about it being low scoring because vandy does not have the offense to keep up with anyone in a shootout type ball game.

Injuries are partly to blame but not completely. TN runs a 4-2-5 and the starting front have all been 2nd and 3rd string DEs with the exception of Kendall Vickers who is listed as a DT but was a DE coming in that has put on some weight to play there, and Barnett. With starting D line out, the ones who got most of the first team reps, they are relying on guys that are undersized and with way less practice and game reps than the starters and 2nd string. It starts at the D line. If D line cant shed blocks and stuff the run, LBs have to do it. Vols are missing the fastest and best tackling LB they have in JRM. Kirkland has missed extensive playing time and is still not 100%. Jumper is a former walk on that has been playing as well as he could be. The rest again are 3rd and 4th string that hasnt gotten lots of practice or game reps until lately. When LBs cant shed blocks or miss assignments, it falls on the safeties and DBs. Same deal. Sutton is back but like I said, he is rusty and prob not playing full throttle either.

The other part of the equation IMO is Shoop wasnt allowed to bring his own guys to implement what he wanted to do. He hasnt been using his terminology, instead trying to adapt his terminology to what was already being used. He likes to run some complex things but hasnt been able to teach it fully the way it probaby should be taught to be effective. Now, the starters were probably more experienced and equipped to take what Shoop brought, even in a version that wasnt exactly what he wanted to do, and make it work but factor in young players and guys with limited experience that are playing now out of necessity and its not working, at all.

Tackling is horrible though and thats probably a mixture of bad coaching and being less physical in summer and fall camp trying to cut down on pre season injuries.

I give Shoop a pass mostly because I think he isnt playing with a full deck.

High scoring game, we have lost like 8 DT's, may end up like mizzou game. Butch needs some more big uglys in this recruiting class, hopefully some guys will be healed by bowl time

Hopefully but there wont be any DT help unless Paul Bain (scout team) or Big Charles Mosely ( was listed as o-line 2 weeks ago) get put in. Bain was going to get some PT but also got hurt against Tenn Tech. Mosely cant seem to get on the field even with injuries so who knows there. Right now healthy you have Kongbo (DE), Kyle Phillips(DE), Kendall Vicker (DT), and Quay Picou (DT). I had forgotten about Picou at DT but he was one of the back ups thats been forced into playing time that prob wasnt ready. So two DT, one of which came in as a DE, and thats all youve got. The other guys rotating in are undersized and getting pushed around everywhere. Alexis Johnson was a guy that could have helped but missed all of spring, summer and fall camp over his legal issues. He now is injured with a hip flexor and will prob redshirt.

The other problem with not having any DTs is that the DE that are having to play inside are being missed in the DE rotation which isnt allowing Barnett or Vereen to get many spells. Right off the top of my head Darrell Taylor is the only guy subbing in at DE.

Bragging rights aside.. what's in the line for these two teams with a win ???

Nothing. They aint Alabama so they dont have anything to play for, right?

Low scoring game? Not a chance. Rofl

I wouldn't touch that line and would not be surprised with a Vandy W. The Vols only chance is to hope to keep them to fgs because t hey are going to run up and down the field.

Should be another entertaining game though.

a vol win probably gets them a sugar bowl vs oklahoma :D

I expect that line is too high. From my understanding after reading this forum a couple of weeks ago, ole miss is a top ten ten and vandy put it on them.

Really though, like said above it's tough to call. Vandy looked pretty balanced on offense last night.
