I know a lot of hens nest in the bottoms so I hope that there are a bunch on higher ground or the low ones build new nests elsewhere.

Just got done deep cleaning my shotgun after being soaked all weekend.

The first couple spots I hit on public land this morning were dead, except for the occasional hen. I knew a spot I usually hit every year and it always has birds somewhere, whether on the private field or public, I thought I could find something there.

Well it was a long walk from the truck, but I figured was worth looking. About 1/4 way in, the trail was flooded from the river nearby. The detour to walk around all the water was more than I felt like dealing with, so I headed to a private farm.

Throughout the rest of the day, I saw 2 jakes and 4 toms, all in fields. 2 of the toms caught me wide open and eased off. The other 2 were together with no hens, but had zero interest in my calling, and then pulled a disappearing trick. That's how my season has been lately. Hope it turns around by Friday. Going to the lake for a few days next weekend to fish and turkey hunt. Hope we have a good hatch this year. Birds are still there but being tough.

Like Steven said at least it's early enough to re-nest if need be.

We had around 4" this weekend here in Madison co. I hunt mostly river bottom so I'm sure all the nest that were there are wiped out now.

Hope not

I remember thinking the same thing after the flood of 2010. I'm on higher ground and seems like most of the hens nest in the hills around my house so I'm holding out hope that they're ok, for the most part. As was already stated, it is early so maybe the ones that got washed out can lay more and will be ok. Last year I had one hen that hatched out three chicks at the beginning of September, something I've never seen. I know it happens but it was a first for me. Nature is pretty resilient. On my way to work this morning I saw a few toms strutting in different spots so they're still fired up around here, they're just not very vocal this year for some reason.

More acorns this fall for the deer, natures way of evening out the playing field I guess.
I'd rather the deer not have acorns for a year than the turkeys not have babies for a year.
