I'll post more on the deer later, but I messed up an easy 30 yard shot, pulled left and hit a deer in the back of the lung, liver and stomach. I should have hit the pocket behind the shoulder. Bullet was just under the skin on the offside. Hornady XTP 240gr hollow point with 100 grains of blackhorn 209. No blood trail, but a lot of grid searching found him 200 yards from where I shot. Got some history with this deer. Like I said I'll post more later, I've got a lot of video editing to catch up on. Just thought the bullet find was cool.

Congrats! I have only ever recovered 1 bullet, but when you shoot them mostly at Bow range you usually wont find many. Glad you found this one with only a 30 yard shot.

Have shot that same setup except for 90gr for years. My Encore loves it and bullet has treated me well.

Love the photo and nice buck!

Been watching the Indiana challenge this week too.

Congrats, glad you found him. Curious what made you pull the shot, lot of things can happen. Can't wait to see better picture.
The cheap scope doesn't have much eye relief and hit me in the nose while I was sighting in the gun, made me flinch. That and having a buck staring at me, and it was a free hand shot. It's all excuses, I shouldn't have pulled the shot so bad. Surprised I still hit a lung.

Most people would probably never found the deer. Don't beat yourself up, but get yourself some decent glass for your 30/30.

It's muzzleloader season. I shot him with a brand new CVA Wolf stainless and 240 grain Hornady bullets. The 30-30 has never given me scope issues, it has a Nikon

Which sabots do you shoot with the 240 grain?
Years ago I shot them when Hornady had them packaged together for muzzleloaders. Haven't seen those in a long while.

They come with sabots in the same box. Low drag green sabots

Hornady 240 grain xtp mags have performed well for me. Congratulations on your buck. Can't really tell much about the buck from the pic, but looks like a nice buck.

I shoot them in my encore too but with 100 grains of triple 7 pellets. Deadly combo.

They still come that way. Bought a box at Sportsman's Warehouse a few weeks back.
