Well after one of the most crazy and bizarre seasons I've ever had, I finally got to put my hands on a deer. It seemed like every time I got to go hunting from the start of the season, that something would go horribly wrong. Either I'd have dogs come through running deer, deer just plain bust me, people come in on me, or plain shooting a big doe and not being able to recover it due to a jerk. Then when the time changed, we started working 10 hr shifts and that meant going in at dark and getting off at dark = no hunting. ML rolled around and I never got to go because of work. Then rifle rolled around and I came down with Swine Flu, and missed a week of work and hunting, and THEN came down with pneumonia on top of that, and there went another week.

So anyway yesterday I FINALLY got an 8 hour day and I didn't care that it was bow season, I just wanted to go hunting. I got in one of my stands at 4 p.m. and hadn't even settled in yet. I pulled my bow up, took a swig of Pepsi, and heard something behind me. Turned and there walked a deer right towards one of my shooting lanes. I stood up and put my first Rage broadhead into a deer. BOY WAS I IMPRESSED!! Great blood trail; actually a no brainer one. I was a little disappointed when I recovered it, that it was a button buck. I had been seeing lots of them back in early bow season and letting them go. But hey, no shame to me. It's a legal deer and will eat just the same. Note the size of the hole. This is the entrance. The exit was almost identical. I think this is the latest in the year I've ever killed a deer with my bow. Maybe I'm just now gonna get started thwacking.

Congrats on the deer, and don't sweat the buttons, heck we've all done it...And they do eat good...

i see the hole and only have one question, have you ever shot a deer with a name brand 3 blade expandable (Rocket, Grimm REaper, ect?) The only reason I ask is I kept seeing all these pics of so called big holes on the net and hearing all these great reports on Rage, and I'll admit I got in on it , even though I had never had a problem in 4 years with my Rockets...And what I've had to show for it is a rough year, with the worst blood trails I have ever seen and a couple of lost deer..Also had one open in flight on me (heard it)...Now switched back to the rocket and shot A nice buck and examined the hole, only to be reminded it is much bigger than the Rage holes I see on the net...

To be honest with you, I've ALWAYS been a big skeptic of the mechanical heads. I've tried a few brands of them over the years, and have always came back to fixed heads. Now granted, I've only had shot opportunities with a couple of them besides the Rage:

Rocket Steelhead 100 & NAP Shockwave 100.

I lost the deer with the Shockwaves. I actually think I killed the deer and that it was stolen by someone else (shot it at LBL). We tracked it and had decent blood then found where it had bedded down or something, and no deer or no more blood. And I killed a deer with the Steelheads but I didn't get to trail it because I hit it in the spine.

Thanks everybody for the congrats and such! I went Saturday following my success on Friday. And went right back into the horrible season. Had two dogs run a deer by me about 100 yards out.

If you will let me know where your stands are I will keep them warm for you while you and my wife work 10 hrs the rest of the year. Just send a map home with her.

From what I've been hearing, your luck this year has went about like mine. So it probably wouldn't do ya any good if I did draw you a good map. According to our last few trail cam pics, everything here is moving....but only when its dark.
