I have waded freezing cold creeks, belly crawled in mud, sat for hours on end, used decoys, sat all day in the rain, waited out thunder storms under a rock overhang, and swam a river to chase a gobbling turkey.....

All the above. One yr I had this bird was driving me crazy. I had one tag left and was saving it for him. 3 days left in the season and I figured out the tree he was using. I got there 2 hrs before day light so I could sneak in as close to the tree as possible. Only problem was it was lightning like you wouldn't belive and raining like a monsoon. In my head I thought if I stayed low enough to the ground the lightning would not stike me. Lol. So I belly crawled across this field in the dark pushing my gun in front me. Did this for over a 100 yrds. Got set up and set for 1 1/2 hrs at the base of this tree 30 yrds from the turkey while it was steadly raining and lightning. At day light when that birds feet hit the ground I rolled him. He never took a step. Lol

Got caught in a nasty thunderstorm. Broke my cardinal rule of not going into the main deer bedding area on our farm. But deep inside there is so much privot and cedar I didn't get very wet. 2 hours after it passed killed a great tom

Once, I forgot to bring my cushion for my chair in my tent blind...but I stuck it out. Another time, my wife didn't make my lemonade sweet enough...I called it a day and came home.

been caught In the huge 2010 flood and hunted. got kind of dangerous because of all the creeks around that particular farm. pretty close to being trapped and also almost got my truck stuck in that one. and also hunting in many thunder storms and I got caught up in a tornado warning once. not much slows me down with turkeys or deer. it takes a whole lot to keep me out of the woods

Hunted opening day last year in 6" of slushy snow, sitting down in it was great fun.

I think I've done it all by now to be honest. Ridden out horrific thunderstorms, climbed mountains the size of everest, 60 MPH winds, waded more swollen creeks then I care to recall, and walked over 10 miles in a day trying to find something willing to communicate.

Im all for the adventure, one time we barely dodged a flood on the Cumberland River last year in kayaks chasing public land birds.

:D Excellent!

I love these threads. Next can we see who can eat the hottest peppers or maybe do some indian burns with a pencil eraser?

Anyone that would swim a raging river or go out in a lightning storm and risk not coming home to his family over a turkey is a dammn fool. There will be other days and other seasons but your kids only have one Dad. I suspect most of this is tall tales anyway.

I don't go out in bad weather but have been caught by sudden thunder storms a few times. As soon as I hear the thunder in the distance, I make a dash for safety but sometimes I can't outrun the storm.

I had an incident one time that is not weather related:
I was sitting in a small creek bed on some tree roots watching a gobbler feed in a long narrow field. I made a couple of calls and he would look in my direction and then go back to feeding. He was slowly coming my way. All of a sudden I heard the leaves rustling near my feet. I looked down and there came a three foot long black snake. Now I am not afraid of snakes, especially black snakes but I don't want one on me. This guy crawled across my boots and went on his merry way. I didn't move for fear of spooking the gobbler but it was sort of nerve wracking. BTW, I did not get that bird.

I don't think anyone said anything about a raging river one!! Two if you hunt long enough you will get caught in certain situations !! Three spring storms can change in an instant!! I for one have always had someone with me when these things have occurred !! I do have a family and I know what is safe and what's not!! Some of don't sit around and wait for only the crystal clear days to chase turkeys...I enjoy all days and conditions that we have to chase turkeys!! Do I got out in tornado warnings NO! But a little spring thunderstorm is going to pass!! Just make sure you get to a safe area and use you head !! Some of us hunt big public land that you may be 1 to 2 miles back in an area when a squall blows in!! Your only option is to get to place that you fell safe !! This is all of course just my OPINION !!

I work 4-10s and save 2 of my weeks of vacation for April. I hunt more days than most. I will hunt in a downpour but I am not going to belly crawl across a field with a metal gun during a lightening storm. And I certainly won't swim across a river with my gear. How do you guys do this? Swim with boots on? Carry them and your gun while swimming? Maybe the "rivers" y'all have are different than the ones around here. I couldn't begin to imagine how to swim across the rivers around here with my gun and boots. Especially during spring when water and current is up.

You don't think it's dumb to risk your life over 1 turkey or 1 day of hunting? Seriously?
